We’re only into 2022 by a few weeks and man, do we have a lot of stuff coming for you!! First up, now that the holidays are wrapped up, Pub Runs are back!! I mean, they never really went away, we just incorporated them into our holiday runs, but now there are dedicated beer drinking nights!! (If you’re into that sort of thing…sometimes we drink seltzers…and there’s typically really good food involved too.) These nights are easy runs, usually out and backs and no more than a 5k. The goal is to just hang out and have fun! Check Strava or the website calendar for more info!

Speaking of, keep an eye on the website! We’re in the process of making a few changes so it may look a little different next time you visit us. One of the main goals is to integrate our waiver so that you’re able to fill it out and submit it online. Last year, we obtained our non-profit status and voted this year to continue to keep our club FREE to join.

We do have a few operating expenses that we need to cover however (ie. insurance, website maintenance, etc.) and will be asking local business to help in exchange for advertising both online and on our 2022 Run Club T-Shirts and Hoodies. If you know of someone that might be interested, let me know! Eventually we would like to host our own events that benefit Templeton High School Cross Country and Track teams as well as to be able to provide youth scholarships.

Some future projects for this year include working with Templeton Rec Department to put on a Run Camp at the end of the school year as well as collaborating with trail running Guru Luis Escobar on hosting a North County trail run in the fall. If you would like to be involved in any of these projects, please email me at rosaliesmith@templetonrunclub.com

On February 19th, the Buzz Marathon, Half marathon, 10k and 5k will be held out at Camp Roberts for their 22nd annual event! Proceeds from this race help fund athletic programs at Lillian Larsen Elementary School Grades K-8 as well as provide physicals scholarships for 8th graders going to high school.

Also in February is one of my all time favorites, the Support Blue 5k/10k held in Woodward Park in Fresno. Not only does the community really come together to support men and women in law enforcement, but Support Blue Fresno campaign aims to educate youth to enhance relationships and understanding with officers. There is a great expo, tech race shirts that you’ll actually wear and the 10k course is fast! This is a course you can shoot for a PR on and the medals are pretty sweet too!!

I’m going to finish this update with a post from one of our run club members, Angela Britton. She sums up our race at Castle to Coast today perfectly!

22 years – what a difference!

“Today I ran the Castle to Coast 8 miler. I have run it a handful of times over the years, and it never disappoints! I’ve run it in the rain, the fog, and mostly the beautiful sunshine, but today was a first! There was a tsunami warning issued for the California Coast, and it was due to arrive 20 minutes before race time! Luckily, if it did happen, it was too small for us to notice.

I’ve been journaling my running since 1993, and below is my entry from the first time I ran this race back in 2000. As you can see, my journaling has gone electronic, and my running form has changed pretty dramatically! The older photo isn’t from the same race, but it’s from a race I ran later that year. Boy did I look energetic back then! Yeah, I’ve gotten a little slower over the years (okay, a LOT slower ), but these days I’m just thankful to the Lord that I’m able to run! I’m also thankful for my husband, who carted my butt out there AND ran the race too! …and for my friends, the Templeton Running Club, who keep me motivated!” Angela Britton

A Head

We had over 20 runners participate in the 25th annual City to the Sea Half Marathon and 5k and it was pretty awesome to be included in such a great group. I am so proud of the support we had for each other as well as our own individual accomplishments.

I am grateful for the friends we’ve made and the people we’ve met through starting this club two years ago. We will celebrate our birthday and our 3rd  Annual Turkey Trot Thanksgiving Morning at 7:30am from Templeton Park. We will start off with a one mile warm up walk, followed by a 5k/10k fun run down Moss Lane. This year, we would like to collect donations to help support ECHO Homeless Shelter and help give back to our community. ECHO is hosting their own Turkey Trot at Atascadero Lake Park at 8:30am and will match donations! We’re hoping to raise $200 to send them!!

We are blessed with local traditions like the Victorian Vine Street Showcase in Paso Robles. On December 15th we will host an Ugly Sweater 5k fun run , starting at the Paso Market Walk at 6pm. We’ll run down Spring Street and take a running tour down Vine to check out all the Christmas lights and decorations. Deck yourself out with all the Christmas lights you can handle! Check Strava for the route and to RSVP, Medals will be awarded to the top 3 Ugly Christmas Sweaters!

I am thankful for the New Year and an opportunity to make 2022 the best one yet! To kick it off, we’ll be running the 2022 Running Chicken 5k/10k Run at Santa Margarita Lake on January 2nd to support the Run 4 Bitti and Brynn Foundation. Participating in this run will help provide scholarships to graduating high school athletes attending Central Coast Schools, provide athletic shoes to high school athletes in need and support youth and high school sports programs.

I am grateful to live on the Central Coast, where we can run in the Los Padres Forest the same day we run on the beach. Castle to Coast is an 8.2 mile run along Highway 1 from San Simeon to Shamel Park in Cambria. This year’s race will be held on Saturday, January 15th at 8am. Not only is this a spectacular run along the coast, it also fundraises for the Cuesta College Track and Field Program.

We are blessed with the people that dedicate their time and energy into making TRC a club we can all be proud of. Thank you to our TRC Board, Nicole Taylor (Vice President) Tony Lopez (Treasurer) and Stéphanie Marenne (Secretary) as well as ALL of our members that are there to encourage and cheer each other on!

We will be having our end of the year meeting on December 1st at 6pm where we will be discussing goals for 2022. Feel free to join us on Zoom! Use Meeting ID: 884 7255 0607 with Passcode: TRC1201. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!!

Happy Running!
